My work collages various aspects of my life stemming from childhood to now. Crossing the border to watch my dad play basketball, my inability to speak Spanish, and growing up in low-income housing, are experiences that contribute to the ideas and sentiments in my work. I use a number of materials informed by my interdisciplinary background. Combining imagery from pop culture and historical sources, I make work that expresses a range of emotions as it relates to personal identity. I do extensive research into the visual languages and histories I tap into. I draw upon iconography from my culture to speak about the histories that are contained within me, such as the Aztec civilization, Catholicism, and Mexican-Americans in California. From these broader topics, my work touches upon nuances contained within them, as they intersect each other, along with the way these themes appear in my life.
