I am primarily a painter, whose process is fundamentally rooted in drawing. I work iteratively, using drawing to develop compositions that bridge form and feeling. My process begins with observation of daily experiences which I process through drawing, listening and reading – so that an original experience is imbued with new meaning as it is influenced by sound and language. This process has compelled me to explore animation, sequential imagery, and repetition.
I paint with highly saturated pigments, charging the work with an accentuated vibrance. In depicting the natural world with unnatural colors, I create a surreal landscape that parallels reality. My interest lies in discovering moments in reality that offer a portal into the realm of the unconscious. Across all mediums, I work to invoke a deep sense of yearning by way of unique color relationships, compositional space, and fantastical narratives, which contemplate the challenges of life and relish in the remarkability of existence. I explore imagination and its power to transcend the familiar, generating magic in the mundane.
