Ana Cláudia Almeida (b. 1993, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, lives and works in New Haven, United States) is an artist interested in exploring materialities through movement and mark making. Her work incorporates paper, plastic, oil pastels, and paints, spanning various mediums such as painting, video, and sculpture. Almeida's explorations trouble the dominant role that functionality plays in the way objects are understood, engaging with the tension between interior and exterior, individual and environment. This stance is articulated through an examination of the relationship between nature and human-made spaces, such as urban landscapes and social systems of religion, gender, and sexuality.
