I write and reflect on the parallels between design and the act of writing. Both are material transformations of language—capturing moments and realizing them, like hanging weights of different shapes and sizes. Each is an act of careful selection, choosing mediums as vessels for meaning, with attention to how they will be read. Letters become words, sentences, and bodies of text, situated within space. Their arrangement guides the reader’s pace, dictating when to pause and when to proceed, thereby composing a rhythm. In this sense, I see typography as a form of poetry, imparting rhythm to comprehension through the coordination of form. My practices are my way of writing and tools for reading.
